Look up and look out for all the action on the River Boyne at the Irish Maritime Festival 2017.
A stunning flotilla of ships arrives on Friday afternoon, all ready for the festival to open on Saturday morning. Watch out for the Russian frigate The Shtandart on it’s first visit to Ireland. This class A Tall Ship really will be a highlight of this years festival. Check out the majestic Earl of Pembroke or the sail training vessel the Brian Boru. No sooner have the swimmers finished than the yachts will sail into Drogheda as part of the Howth Drogheda Yacht Challenge. These elegant cruiser yachts will have left Howth at 10.00am and the first of the yachts is expected into Drogheda Port around 2.00pm. Learn more about this race here.
The action isn’t just in the water … no, it’s on the water too!
Look up high on the masts of the Tall Ship the Shtandart and you’ll see the Peter Pan Aerial Acrobatic Show. Aerial Cirque brings Neverland to the Irish Maritime Festival. Witness singing mermaids. Marvel as Peter Pan and Captain Hook battle it out with daring aerial acrobatics on rigged ropes. Follow Tinkerbell and her magical fairy dust as she dances among the floating white silks in this unique and memorable experience for all ages. The show happens three times per day at 12.30pm, 3.00pm and 5.00pm and lasts for approximately 20 minutes. Please note that, for safety reasons, during this show access to this particular ship is restricted.
