Volunteers Sought ……

Volunteers sought to help make Maritime Festival bigger and better than ever!

Safety-in-numbersIt was a case of “Ahoy There, volunteers!” today as the organisers of the Irish Maritime Festival, in association with Maxol, sent out a call for volunteers to “come aboard and join in the festival fun.”

Taking place from 19-21st June, the Festival is a celebration of Drogheda’s Maritime traditions. It is hosted by Louth County Council and Drogheda Port Company.

Volunteers are invited to help make The Irish Maritime Festival bigger and better than ever.

“Do you have time and energy to spare over mid-summers weekend?” asked Mayor Kevin Callan. “We would love to welcome you to join the volunteers with The Irish Maritime Festival”.

“We are looking for volunteers to help with stewarding, themeing and design, carpentry and looking after festival guests. We want to create a warm, family friendly atmosphere and that comes from the warmth and friendliness of local people.

“We are delighted that St Oliver’s Scouts, Drogheda & District Support 4 Older People, Drogheda Lions Clubs, local sports clubs, students and staff from local companies have already signed up. Will you join us?”

John Cotterell of the Louth Volunteer Centre is equally enthusiastic. “The Irish Maritime Festival is a great opportunity get involved in volunteering. It’s a fun, friendly community event and a chance to work as part of a team to create a really special experience for visitors to Drogheda. The Louth Volunteer Centre is delighted, yet again, to support this event and encourage both existing and new volunteers to sign up today and be part of this dynamic and fun event.

Eleanor Healy is looking forward to volunteering this year. “My sister Claudine was part of the volunteer team last year and she really enjoyed it. I was away last summer so I missed the Festival but I’m delighted to join the team for 2015. I know that it’s going to be great fun and as a marketing student in college I also know that it’s going to be great work experience.”
