On Sunday 21st June, the River Boyne will be the scene for the ultimate battle of strength and supremacy. At noon, two teams will battle it out and only one side can win. Will it be the “this side” or the “far side”?
As part of The Irish Maritime Festival 2015, two teams will take up battle positions on either side of the DeLacy Bridge. This high stakes Tug of War across the River Boyne will see a team from Integral Gym Drogheda represent the north side of Drogheda whilst Aura Drogheda Leisure Centre will represent the south side of the town. Only one will take home the title “Battle over the Boyne 2015 Champions”.
The event is being hosted by Scotch Hall Shopping Centre and General Manager Ken Fox explains “The Battle will commence at 12noon at the DeLacy Bridge. We are encouraging people to come along and support their side of town. Bring your family, friends and neighbours, line the walls either side of the river and cheer for your team to help them to glory. Get there early to soak up the atmosphere and so you don’t miss a moment of the action. Our car park will be open early and offer free parking to families coming to the Festival who want to support the Battle over the Boyne Championship.”
Kicking off at noon, the Battle will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Each team is made up of 6 competitors. 1 team member acts as the anchor, while the other 5 pull and seek to drag their opponents across the line. The winners are determined by the best of 5 contests.
“Scotch Hall are delighted to partner with The Irish Maritime Festival for the inaugural “Battle over the Boyne” contest. We loved the idea as soon as we heard it and we are keen to grow the contest in the coming years. We are really looking forward to this years contest – may the best team win!” concluded Ken Fox.
